Bachelor of Design + Digital Media, Year 3 Student project
Bachelor of Design + Digital Media
This project explores the connections between different modes of messaging throughout history. Establishing the relationship between human behaviour and technology.
The final outcome is a collection of documents, photographs, and visual artifacts, all curated in the style of declassified government materials. This body of work is housed in an archive box that has been aged using techniques such as sanding, scuffing, and some ‘gentle throwing’ to achieve a convincingly ‘used’ appearance. This presentation serves as an introductory piece designed to spark dialogue around the concepts of communication and digital surveillance. By employing a declassified document aesthetic, the project aims to pique the audience’s curiosity, enticing them to explore the contents within.
The physicality of the presentation plays a crucial role in bridging the gap between the audience and the intangible realms of communication and cyberspace. Encouraging the audience to touch and interact with the materials helps ground these abstract concepts in a tangible reality.
The content itself is straightforward and takes a more humorous approach, making complex and potentially daunting subject matter more accessible.
This approach ensures that the audience can engage with the themes of the project without feeling overwhelmed. In the future, this project is set to expand into a more comprehensive archive.
