Anton Maurer is an artist and educator, with a practice grounded in lens-based media.
His photobook Endeavour, published by Bad News Books (2022), focused on the impact of capitalism and colonisation on Aotearoa’s landscape.
Works from the series have been exhibited throughout Aotearoa, in Australia and Germany, and have also been published in Australia and the US.
Maurer’s current research project Care stems from his experience of asking Crown Entities for help due to living with a rare disorder.
This has resulted in a shift in his work towards advocacy, disability studies, institutional critique and protest.
Recent exhibitions of note include: Care, RM, Tāmaki Makaurau, 2023; and Ngā Ao Kei Roto: He Pukawhakaahua o Aotearoa │
Worlds Within: Photobooks of Aotearoa New Zealand, Te Papa Tongarewa, Te Whanganui-a-Tara, 2022
