Postgraduate Diploma in Information Technology

The programme will provide graduates with the knowledge and experience in their chosen field of study: Cyber Security, Ubiquitous Computing, Data Analysis, or Machine Learning.

It PGDipIT prepares graduates for senior technology roles with capability for more rapid career and technological advancement.

 

This programme focuses on building existing knowledge, developing research capability and creating innovative solutions in a chosen area of interest.

Outline

Graduates will build on existing knowledge, develop research capability, and create innovative solutions in a chosen topic or area of interest.

This qualification provides a pathway for graduates and students wishing to engage in higher level studies or progress their career in the IT industry.

Some specialist courses are 85% aligned with IT Industry Certifications.
Available Industry certifications are Ethical Hacking, Network Defender, Digital Forensics and Chief Information Security Officer.

Students have an opportunity to achieve industry certifications while completing PGDipIT.

Domestic: $8,736 + $300 Student Services Levy

International: $24,000+ $300 Student Services Levy

Graduates of this programme will be able to:

 

  • Critically evaluate existing knowledge in the field of IT and create new know ledgethat informs innovative solutions
  • Analyse complex scenarios and design solutions applying advanced tools and techniques that meet specific needs considering cultural and societal impacts
  • Lead, manage, and communicate IT projects with the IT and/or research community through evidence-based outputs
  • Apply legal, ethical, and social practices of the IT industry in research and solution design.

Admission Requirements

Applicants must

  • Have a recognised Bachelor degree in Information Technology or a related discipline with a B- or higher average

OR

  • Have a Bachelor degree (Honours) in Information Technology or a related discipline

OR

  • A Graduate Certificate or Graduate Diploma in Information Technology or related field.

 

International applicants must

  • Turn 18 within their first year of study at Whitecliffe
  • Have achieved prior to enrolling an IELTS Academic overall score of 6.5 with no band less than 6.0 or equivalent (whitecliffe.ac.nz/english-proficiency-outcome)
  • Provide a Statement of Purpose
  • Meet New Zealand visa entry requirements

This programme has Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) requirements, we recommend you follow the specifications listed as these will support you to be successful in your studies.

  • The latest Windows is the recommended operating system, with regular updates across the programme of study.

  • Intel® or AMD processor with 64-bit support; 2 GHz or faster processor with SSE 4.2 or later
  • 16 GB RAM
  • 500 GB SSD or higher hard drive with 10GB free space minimum
  • Wireless capability 802.11n dual-band
  • Up-to-date antivirus software

Minimum Operating System

  • Windows 10 (64-bit) version 1809 or later; LTSC versions are not supported (a must for IT Students)
    OR
  • Intel i5 or equivalent or above
  • AMD Ryzen5 or equivalent processor
  • Internet and unlimited data plan recommended.

Not Supported:

  • Chromebooks
  • Windows X or Windows S OS
  • Tablets (except Windows Surface Pro or iPad Pro)
