At Whitecliffe College, fashion isn’t just about clothing—it’s about telling a story through fabric and colour. This year, our talented Diploma of Fashion Technology students are weaving their own stories as part of the 11th annual Resene Colour of Fashion project. This exciting collaboration with Resene has become a cornerstone of our fashion program, offering students a unique opportunity to launch their careers by exploring the vibrant possibilities of colour.
Colouring Outside the Lines
The theme for this year, “Imagine the possibilities,” encouraged our students to push their creative boundaries. Armed with nothing but silk twill and Resene’s bold colours like Resene Freewheeling, Resene Adrenalin, and Resene Drop Dead Gorgeous, our students set out to create garments that captured their imagination. Inspiration came from all corners—nature’s beauty, personal memories, and cultural heritage. Each piece is a reflection of the designer’s unique vision and a testament to their passion for fashion.
From Inspiration to Reality
After months of designing, sketching, and sewing, 24 finalists have been selected to present their creations to a panel of judges. These students will have the chance to see their work come to life on professional models, capturing the essence of their designs in a real-world fashion shoot. It’s a moment of pride, creativity, and a glimpse into the professional world they are about to enter.
Looking Ahead
This November, our students will proudly showcase their designs at the Whitecliffe College Graduate Showcase in Auckland and Wellington. The winner of the Resene Colour of Fashion project will be announced, receiving a $1000 prize from Resene. This showcase isn’t just about displaying talent—it’s about celebrating the journey of our students and the limitless possibilities that lie ahead.
