Bachelor of Design + Digital Media, Year 3 Student project

Bachelor of Design + Digital Media

This project was deeply meaningful to me, not only for myself but for my entire family and future generations to come. The inspiration came from a
desire to preserve and celebrate our family’s rich history and heritage. By creating the branding, logo, and brand guide, as well as compiling a book documenting all the found objects from the wash house renovation, I aimed to create a bridge between the past and the present.

The branding aimed to be modern while reflecting our history and significance to our family, and I believe I achieved that with our logo and branding, where everything has a meaningful connection. The design process involved extensive research into our family history, which unveiled a treasure trove of stories and artifacts. The challenge was to ensure that the modern design elements complemented rather than overshadowed the historical aspects. I overcame this by carefully selecting symbols and colours that resonate deeply with our heritage.

Through this project, I aimed to create a platform for more dialogue and a greater depth of understanding of our family’s past. The book documenting the found objects from the renovation not only serves as a tangible connection to our history but also as an educational tool for younger family members. This documentation process uncovered numerous stories and items that were previously unknown, enriching our family narrative.

Illustrator and InDesign were used to create the design elements and book, while the paper was handmade by myself. With all line illustrations drawn by each family member.
