Bachelor of Applied Information Technology

This degree programme aims to prepare industry-ready graduates who are specialists in their chosen field of Network Engineering and Security or Software and Web Development. Graduates will develop a systemic and coherent understanding of Information Technology.

The degree is accredited by IT Professionals New Zealand and is a part of the Seoul Accord, so graduates will have an internationally recognised qualification.

Outline

The degree consisting of two specialisations: Network Engineering and Security, and Software and Web Development.

Graduates of the programme will develop a systemic and coherent understanding of Information Technology.

In their chosen specialisation of Network Engineering and Security or Software and Web Development, they will develop knowledge and understanding that they can apply in the workplace and will prepare them for IT professional body membership and certification.

• Cisco CCNA Routing and Switching

• CCNA Security

Domestic: $7,541 + $300 Student Services Levy

International: $19,500 + $300 Student Services Levy

The programme includes a final IT project that includes an industry placement.

Network Engineering and Security

  • Troubleshoot local and wide-area enterprise networks on advanced security, voice, wireless, and video solutions.
  • Plan, configure, install, and verify the implementation of complex enterprise switched and routed networks using current network architecture.

 

Software and Web Development:

  • Design, develop and maintain software applications, web and mobile solutions, and related technologies
  • Critically evaluate and implement solutions for software and web-related environments.

Admission Requirements

Applicants must

  • Turn 17 within their first year of study at Whitecliffe
  • Have achieved NCEA Level 3 or above and 20 credits at NCEA Level 2 or above, including:
    • 14 credits each in three approved subjects, and
    • UE Literacy (NCEA Level 2 or above; 10 credits with 5 credits each in reading and writing), and
    • UE Numeracy (NCEA Level 1 or above; 10 credits)

OR

  • A relevant qualification at Level 3 on the NZQF or above and the equivalent of UE Literacy
    and Numeracy

OR

  • New Zealand Certificate in Information Technology Essentials (Level 4).

International applicants must

  • Turn 18 within their first year of study at Whitecliffe
  • Have achieved prior to enrolling an IELTS Academic overall score of 6.0 with no band less than 5.5 or equivalent (whitecliffe.ac.nz/english-proficiency-outcome)
  • Have achieved a Certificate in IT Essentials or equivalent
  • Meet New Zealand visa entry requirements

  • 8 GB RAM (Recommended 16 GB)
  • 250 GB SSD or higher hard drive with 10GB free space minimum
  • Wireless capability 802.11n dual-band
  • Up-to-date antivirus software

  • Windows 10 (64-bit) version 1809 or later; LTSC versions are not supported (a must for IT Students)
